Portfolio update time

November 20th, 2008

It’s that time of year again. Holidays? Nope…Time to restyle and possibly remake my portfolio for 2009 - 2010. With harsh economic times hanging over everyones heads I’ve been coping by thinking about the future. Thinking about the future naturally made me think futuristic, futuristic made me think of outer space, outer space made me think that living on Earth kind of sucks right now, thinking the Earth sucks made me look out my window, looking out my window made me look at the sky, then I thought “the sky is the limit,” which made me think about the future again, and then I finally settled on space.

So…in short. I say that space is the place.

So I made a handbag…

August 5th, 2008

So I made a handbag…Photos from Form: Artistic Independence show on June 20th

The idea popped up in conversation with a lady friend over dinner sometime in October 2007. I circled around the idea like I was in some sort of boxing match, and rightfully so. The closest thing I had done to this was package design, or a t-shirt. A leather carcass that women tote around was a whole ‘nother animal. Pun intended. The first handbag took from November ‘07 to February ‘08 to fabricate. It was a failure. *sigh*

The second I started in Mid-March, I got a shell from Kate Spade to work from and essentially took it apart, made my design (Invasion print), put it back together, and finished in mid June. Thanks Kate!. The process taught me that making a custom purse costs dumb $$$$, I now know what a clutch is, I found out Kate Spade married David Spades brother, and I could probably do this from scratch next time around. And will.

Sorry for the poor photos…better ones coming soon

Daily Vista: Shades of Green PDF project

July 25th, 2008

So I got a gig to design a PDF document intended for business-to-business info-marketing for Daily Vista, who researches for business trends and offers marketing solutions for other companies. They were going ‘green’ with their push, thus the name ‘Shades of Green.” I started to think of ‘green’ outside of it’s colour.

Green suggests environmentalism, trees, other foliage, and (of course) the colour itself. So with that I wanted to represent going green as an idea more than taking the easy way out and literally display green in different shades. The ’shades of green’ I was attempting to show are the ways people interpret the term ‘going green.’
